My favorite baseball team is the Tigres del Licey, considered one of the best and famous team. The tigres del Licey was founded in 1907,as a result af a meeting that took place in the Colonial Zone, in the house of Vicente Maria Vallejo,on Conde street Santo Domingo, some of the first founded were also part of the first roster. The tigres was earn 23 overall tittles and 10 caribbean series.

Baseball is a sport that has a long history in the DR.I think it's the most popular sport in the country and it is not by happenstance because we have contributed with a lot of baseball players to the USA major leagues (who our people love to watch) for a long time. Therefore, a lot of young people play this sport in order to try to get drafted, but very few get their dream fullfilled. I think the highest achievement that our country has accomplished is the winning of the Baseball World Series, after that I realized that we( dominicans) can do anything we want, we just have to work hard to get it.

Each group of people in the world has their own culture, diferent from others, and they love to live every part of that culture, dominicans are the same, we love our culture, and baseball is part of that, is part of us, so, when dominicans players are playing they are representing our culture, it does`t matter where they are or in what player team they are playing, we say. "his dominican, his our player!" like Robinson Cano and this is one of the most important things of our baseball, of our culture.

Baseball is one of our characterists as Dominicans. Baseball is considered as ``the king of sports`` in Dominican Republic. DR has one of the most important leagues from the caribbean beacuse of the qualities the players have and by the large number of caribbean series tittles. In my personal opinion, David Ortiz is one of the most known among the players. He is a Red Sox player in Boston. The owner of Red Sox gave him a plaque naming him as the greatest clutch-hitter in the history of the Boston Red Sox.
Baseball is the sport that will be always part of our culture, and I`m pretty sure that our players are going for more growth or development as the time passes.

The urban legends are stories that can be true. They form part of our society. They belong to the folklore. They started in big cities. They're lies with a kernel of truth so they can be allerged. It's so important to know about them because they are amusing sometimes. I really liked this topic because urban legends are necessary to our culture. It hands out from generation to generation. And in my opinion, we can learn about them.

The baseball was born in the United States. It's one of the most interesting games since many people around the world watch it. It also took root in japan where it become famous with the name of J-ball. And later it interwinded with the baseball. Also the first name of this exiting game was Townball.

In conclusion baseball has become the passtime of many amateurs, internalized in our country Dominican Republic. Also venezuela and cuba. Japan got prosperity by this game since many good prayers were from there.

The name Game

In my opinion, I think that we have to be careful when we have to choose a name. Names are important. Depending on the name the company will be better. The names doesnt have to be longer, we can use morpheme constructions. Some company use names that are expired. It's a good idea because the company will be known.

The name of a company plays an importan part. The good thing about it its that we dont need to choose names that have a relationship with the product. Also it's important to take in consideration that many people use initials because it's easy to remember.

In conclusion choosing names are a big deal but doing some researches before choosing them will be a better a idea.

Mastering the Law of Gravity

It's an interesting reading about Yuen Won-Ping. He is a famous coordinator of action scenes. I think that the different movies that this coordinator has been involved with are great. Sometimes we watch many movies without knowing who is behind them. Yuen is famous for his dedicated job.

For example The matrix is a movie that performs acrobatic flying, flighting, jumping off walls and the main actors trained with Yuen for 6 months.

In conclusion movies are wonderful. We can have fun! They become part of our life. The different scenes bring us suspense and having a great coordinator like Yuen is perfect. His different techniques like Wire work that creates the illusion of flying is great!

In my opinion Yuen is the best action choreographer because he is so created and the scenes are incredible.

Smart cars,Intelligent Highways

Well, smart has became part of our life. What can we do without them? Nothing! It has been easier with the use of them. Specifically the GPS that can point the location of the vehicle.

In my opinion, The GPS is the best system of these smart cars because they save time. This device with computarized maps, figure out the best ways to reach the drives destinations. The cars can show the information on a map or give drives' voice destinations. Isn't it wonderful?

On the other hand smart cars create problems. It creates distractions while we are using the phone. So we have to be careful this new technology.

In conclusion, I believe that we will be better in the future. Having less traffic, more people will be benefits, less pollution, less accidents and air cars. Cars will control our destinations, turning left, right, receiving commants etc.

Smart cars, intelligent highways

There are cars that can even be driven alone, intelligent vehicles have the option of autopilot and for this reason accidents have been reduced in many countries where these cars are used. Also these cars have cameras behind to help you improve your driving and parking.

SMART CARS INTELLIGENT HIGHWAYS

A smart car is an automobile which is equiped with technology that can help the drivers to reach their destination with less effort and less risk.
In the 1980s Mercedez Benz begun working on a robotic car would use a vision that identifies rapid signals emissions along with autopilot and stabilization system that give the vehicule the hability to recognize the paviment and other objects along the way.
Since then Mercedez Benz, BMW, Nizan and GM had worked in the creation of cars that provide the driver with greater comfort, more safety and the most modern technology.
Do we really need smart cars?
In my opinion , more than smart cars , what we really need is smart drivers:
Drivers who yield other drivers in order to avoid ttaffic jam and accidents
Drivers who always use the seat belt and ask people in their cars to use it
Drivers who respect the traffic signals
People who avoid driving if they are drinking alcohol
Drivers who respect the pedestrian crossing

THE UPS AND DOWN OF YOYOS
While reading the ups and downs of yo-yos I was thinking about my childhood when I used to play with yo-yos and other common toys in dominican republic. I didn’t know that the yo-yos were as old as the reading says.
No one knows when the yo-yos were used for the first time, but we know (according to the reading) that people as important as King Louis XVII , George IV and Napoleon used to play with yo-yos, not only in their chilhood but also when they were adults maybe to calm their anxiety.
Yo-yos were most widely used by boys, but when I was a child I prefered to play with it and also with fu-fu, trompo and cars instead of play with dolls, teddy bears and kitchen sets.
I remember one episode in El Chavo del ocho, in which Don Ramon took some yo-yos players to his neighborhood, made a show with them and later asked for money to people who were watching. It is one of my favorite episode in that TV show.

DID THE CHINESE DISCOVER AMERICA?
Of course that they didn’t . if they had discovered America , things would be completely different in this part of the world:
1-We wouldn’t speak Spanish, English,French or Portuguese. People in America would speak Chinese.
2- Maybe chinese people wouldn’t engage with aborigines in America. As a consequence of it , a lot of aboriginal groups wouldn’t have dissapeared, and maybe all the countries in America would be inhabitated by chinese people and aboriginal people, but never by a mix of them.
3-Another importan point is that the name of this continent wouldn’t be America. It would be , of course , a chinese name, maybe the name of an important person in the history of China.
4-Since the chinese education system is one of the best in the world, maybe here,in this continent , and also in Dominican Republic( the name would be different) we would be using a similar education system and maybe…..maybe…..maybe.. we wouldn’t have the lowest score in the evaluation of the International Student Assessment Program( PISA)

Baseball is interesting because, It is the only American sport which would appear backwards in a mirror and also the only American sport in which the team on defense is the team that has control of the ball
Also, it does not use a clock to determine when the game is over, as nearly any other sport, like a sport, it is quite unique.
does.
More importantly though, is a game of skill, precision, and technique.
Baseball is an exquisite game elegant, epic, and strange.

Baseball is the national sport of Dominican Republic and one of the most interesting play, in my opinion dominican family enjoy it a lot and more when they go to the stadium, they can feel emotion while they whatch the game, i think we are real fans of it. Also normartly, this sport improves the development of the country, giving it a good status.

The national sport and passion of Dominican Republic is baseball or “Beisbol” as we Dominicans call it. Wherever you go on the island you will find a baseball stadium/park, even in the poorest of towns; meaning we are really fans of it.Culturally speaking, our island has strong baseball traditions and it started being played around 1916.

Unknown said...

J-BALL teaches us the origin of baseball;however, Dominican Republic shows us how passionate we are about baseball.
For years, baseball has been at the center of cultural life in the Dominican Republic. Though the origins of baseball in the Dominican aren’t exactly known, historians suggest that baseball first came to the island around the 1880s.
Baseball is everywhere in the DR now, as it was in the U.S. in 1956, when Virgil cracked the Giants' roster. Other sports are played, but baseball is the national pastime and passion. "It's more than a game," Dominican Winter League general manager Winston Llenas once remarked. "It's a national fever. It's almost our way of life."

There are six clubs in the Dominican Winter League: Tigres del Licey and Leones de Escogido, both in Santo Domingo; Estrellas Orientales in San Pedro de Macorís; Aguilas del Cibao in Santiago; Gigantes del Cibao in San Francisco de Macorís; and Azucareros del Este in La Romana. Each represents not merely a different constituency, but also a different culture.

Baseball originally known as "Townball". It is one of the most popular, famous, watched and played sports in the world. It was created in United States for a young man named Abner Doubleday ; he mixed a little from the English games Cricket and rounds, and a little from children's games such as " one old cat ". Baseball also took an important roll in Japan where it became famous with the name of J-Ball.
In Dominican Republic baseball is one of the most popular sports, even though we have here more importants sports ( volleyball, basketball ) . Most of the family in Dominican Republic loves baseball season, they love go to the stadium and enjoy the game. This is our culture, and our culture is around the world.

Baseball is one of the most widely watched and played sports in the world. Dominican Republic have a lot of holidays, but from my point of view Baseball Season is one of the things that we enjoy the most. My love for Baseball comes from my family. Since the winter baseball start until finish, we watch all the games and we support our favorite team "Las Aguilas Cibaeñas" ( The Cibaeñas Eagles) because we are from the Cibao. The most exciting feel is when our team goes to the final series and wins the championship. But when it does not,its not exciting at all. Even if our team loses we do not change to other one. With Baseball born fanaticism, phrases become famous and even rivals become friends. That's why this sport is the passion that make us come together. And those are the reasons why i like it so much.

Hello everyone! :D I'm a kind of late in this forum but anyway let just start with my participation here.

Talkting about J-Ball which is the first chapter discussed, I totally agreed about its definition as one of the most played and famous sport around the world. In the Dominican Republic for example almost everybody (Male) in his childhood has played the known game (Vitilla) which is the imitation for Baseball so in this case We have seen how eachone has thought or feel the needs of playing or being part of a Baseball league. In the very beginning of the Baseball story We have seen how the National League was stablished in the 1876 but the game did not stop just in The United States where was stablished in the 1901 but The Ametican took the game and adopted different techniques in all over the world... If you wanna know more please just keep reading chapter 3 of (World Class Reading 3)

Thousand of stories have been told about Urban Legend moreover as learned in chapter IV Urban Legend are not totally true nor false because of that legend cannot be verified

Sometimes certain stories can be told with unverifiable dates or viceversa.I was really like: "No way" with the story of the attractive young woman standeing in the road at night. This story clearly show unverifiable scenes like when the young woman set on the back sit sudenly desappeared as a ghost, what I mean. This story is nice but it might also have different oppinion depend on each one belief and that's way it cannot be approved as true nor false.
In the first case where a man was drogged by a woman in a Casino it is much more bilievable because that is something tha had happend in several other places in the world as the docter said they'd treated a number of cases just related to theft of organs.

The internet has contributed a great deal to the spread of urban legends. Many are spread today by means of e-mail. There are also dozens of websites where one can see urban legends analyzed and discussed.

An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend is a form of modern folklore. It usually consists of fictional stories, often presented as true, with macabre or humorous elements, beginning in local popular culture. These legends can be used for entertainment purposes, as well as semi-serious explanations for random events such as disappearances and strange objects.
Despite its name, an urban legend does not necessarily originate in an urban area. Rather, the term is used to differentiate modern legend from the traditional folklore of pre-industrial times. For this reason, sociologists and folklorists prefer the term "contemporary legend".
Some urban legends have passed through the years with only minor changes to suit regional variations. More recent legends tend to reflect modern circumstances, like the story of people ambushed and anesthetized, who awaken minus one kidney, which was supposedly surgically removed for transplantation.

AN URBAN LEGEND TALE

when I was a child, I used to go to Nizao for vacation with my family.
We spend a lot time sharing with my grandfather speaking about urban tales. One of them that I remember is this:

The Girl Who Liked To Ask For Water At Mighnight

This girl used to go from house to house knocking on the doors every mighnight to ask for a glass of water, when the person turned his back to look for water the girl would disolved or became in a waterjet

In my opinion, as others of my partners have said, an urban legend can be false or true, nobody knows it because with the time people change the story, there are many versions of every urban legend. However, nobody knows if urben legends were created just to scare people or something else. Also, there are different urban legends like cautionary, funny, amusing, etc.

Urban Legends are the stories counted through the years.
In the Dominican Republic, there are many stories
handed down from generation to generation such as:El Bacà, Ciguapa, The witch, the queen of las Americas and Goat Sucker or Evil thing better known as the chupacabra. Those stories belong to my childhood and help to develop children`s imagination.Nowadays is very uncommon that children know these types of stories due to the fact we are in another era and those stories can be considered bored.

Definitely, my favorite Dominican Urban Legend is La Ciguapa, since it counts the story of a mysterious and beatiful woman.

When choosing a business name, there are many factors to take into consideration, one of them is to have imagination in order to find an authentic and catchy name. Your company name goes before you, it needs to be memorable and easy to remember; another factor is that names needs to be as clear as possible, it does not have to be related to the product necessarily;however,we have to be careful so that names do not have any negative linguistic or cultural meanings in the target language. A name is the first point of contact that an enterprise has with the world that is why it is so important.

Modern technology: advantages and disadvantages

Today, technology is very important because it is used for almost everything and like everything, technology has advantages and disadvantages.

In the world today, people cannot live without technologies such as televisions, mobile phones, computers and others. These technologies have slowly taken an essential part in people’s day-to-day lives and being without them would be unimaginable for some of us. To understand technology, one must know what it provides in terms of advantages, but also disadvantages.

Advantages of technology

First, the evolution of technology is beneficial to humans for several reasons. At the medical level, technology can help treat more sick people and consequently save many lives and combat very harmful viruses and bacteria.

invention of the computer was a very important point. Communication is thus enhanced, and companies can communicate more easily with foreign countries. Research is also simplified.

For companies, progress is saving in time anisd therefore in money. Exchanges are faster especially with the internet. Sales and purchases are now facilitated and possible worldwide. This allows businesses to buy raw materials with discounts or at reduced prices. Similarly, global tourism has grown.

Technology has also increased the productivity of almost every industry in the world.

When observed more closely, new things are discovered every day. Let’s take for instance when radio waves were discovered, radio broadcasts followed suit almost immediately. The same applies to the television and electricity. If no one had discovered that electricity could be generated, then the entertainment industry wouldn’t be at it’s current stage of development.

Disadvantages and risks of technology

On the other hand, the evolution of modern technology has disadvantages, for example, dependence on new technology. Man no longer needs to think. Even if the calculator is a good invention, man no longer makes mental calculation and no longer works his memory. The decline of human capital implies an increase in unemployment. In some areas, devices can replace the human mind.

The use of technology certainly needs rule and new laws. For example internet use is an individual freedom. However, the invention of the atomic bomb cannot be an individual freedom. In fact, regulations are difficult to implement when these technologies are introduced such as regulation surrounding the impending arrival of autonomous vehicles.

Finally, as most technological discoveries aim to reduce human effort, it would imply that more work is done by machines. This equates to less work for people: the human is becoming ever so obsolete by the day, as processes become automated and jobs are made redundant.

The negative impact of the influence of technology on children should not be underestimated as well.

All culture have collection of tales, even specific generations in some families have their own collection of Urban Legends, they passed from one person to another, but aren't necessarily alleged to be true.I think most of people used to tell urban legend in order to scare childrens as in my case, my mother used to tell us story about witchs, indian of the water or monsters when I was a child, specially at night when there was not ligth in the house; those ambients gave to the story something of mistery and credibility. when you are a child you can get scared easily and that happened to me, but when you are an adult you can realice that many of those story were to drive you early to bed and not to wake up ultil the next day.

The Name Game
I think products name are important, for this reason we must be extremely carefully when we're going to chose a company or products name.I hink there should be some general rule that people have to fallow in order to avoid, plagiarims, prosecution or whatever problem that a product name could cause. The reading said that a name is the first point of contact that a company has with the world and respected names have value;but I'm not very sure about that these happen here in this country, I said that because as the readind says names must be catchy and memorable, and I'll give you an example of non catchy and memorable name; this afternoon while I was studying IHeard a promotion outside, was promotion of a new fast food restaurant called "The supertucanos fast food restaurant",then I was thinking; here in San Isidro there is a discotec that is called "the supertucanos discotec" an also a car wash with the same principal name, if the three commerce aren't property of the same person, is too much.

An smart car is one that has computarized gadgets or devices that control everithing, all the car' system, many of the smart features we are seeing today are safety-related. some are systems to avoid collisions.
An intelligent roadway is one type of automated highway features, one or more lanes on which vehicles with special sensors and communications systems can travel completely under computer control. The technology required to operate an atomated highway already exist and has been tested, but I do not think that here we need smarts cars or highways, we need intelligent drivers that respect the transit rules, drivers that have sense and respect the pedestrian crosing, that could be tolerant and avoid make traffic jam, awareness people is what we need and if we have this, smarts cars and intelligents highway aren't necessary.

URBAN LEGENDS , unit 4

Since the dawn of language, people have told stories.

But what , exactly ,are urban legends?
for is a storries.

The name urban legends-which was invented by folklorist Richard Dowson in the 1960s-was first used to distinguish them from legends of an earlier time , which prinmarily had rural settings.

Many urban legends may be considered cautionary tales. They describe the terrible consequences of doing something evil, careless, or just plain stupid. One of the most famos of these cautionary urball legends is the story of ´´The Organ thieves.

The computer company NBI´S initialsstand for ´´nithing but initials.´´

Some corporations have turned to other languages for names. some names are totally invented. choosing good names becomes more difficult when a firm markets internationally. Today, through the internet, even small businesses often do business in several countries. Also companies choose names that are inspired by other company names.

No, they may not be smart enough to changege their own oil or find the lost coins in their seats , but they are smart and getting smarter. Many of the smart features we are seeing today are safety-related.One of the most convenient aspects of smart cars is their ability to navigate.
Smart cars create problems as well, however. No matter how smart cars become, they cannot solve all the problems facing a ´´car-crazy´´ world by themselves .

The Name Game
It is really important to know how to choose wisely a business name in order to catch people attention. A business mane can completely make or break a company, because it is the first thing a customer see,and also it causes a really good or bad impression, impressed investors and make the name web-friendly.
I think it is really important to choose a short and catchy name, otherwise people are going to have troubles memorizing the company names.
when choosing a company name there are somethings that might be taking into consideration, one of the most important is to select an unique name. Avoid using a name that is used by another company or a name that is even similar to another company can cause legal difficulties. At the very least, consumers may become confused.

Urban Legend are stories sometimes true or sometimes not. they are told by the people of a certain town. All cultures, cities, have a many stories handed down from generation to generation. In Dominican Republic there are a lot of stories, Bacá, the witch, old women who suck babies' blood, etc. I grow up listening to this stories, and this can be a real culture in this country.

The Name Game
In this reading we learned how importants companies created their names. And how a new company need to create a name to be atractive.
There are many companies that their names don't have nothing to be with the things they sold, or work with, an example of it is the company Apple, it is a fruit's name, but it doesn't sell fruit.
The name of a company is very important because it is the first thing that a costumer see.

J-BALL
Hello everybody, I like all your comments about baseball. To be honest I am not a really baseball's fan, but reading J-BALL's history made me curios about Dominican's baseball history and I could investigate some questions like:

1) When was the first time that baseball was play in Dom. Rep.?

2) Where it was play?

3) What were the first teams that played it?

4) How many players did each teams have?

So, those questions are really important to know about Dominican's baseball history, as I said before, I'm not a really baseball's fan but now I have essential information to talk about it wherever I need to do it.

URBAN LEGENDS Unit 4

Urban Legends are stories or tales that people create and made famous in order to make others believe in them.Legends are examples of folklore and folklore is Culture. The term Culture refers to the general patterns of behavior and thinking that people in different countries learn, create and share. Each country's cultured is defined by such thing as customs, etiquette, beliefs, rules of behavior, food, religion, language, art , dress, lifestyles, to name just a few. Most of the Urban Legends are alleged to be mysteries and they tells things that can make people feel scared and are like an epidemic that are spread from individual to individual. Even though they are gruesome they warn people to make a lot of things because usually Legends refer to things that have happened. But not all of them are frightening , they are just amusing and can open your mind to the Imagination.

THE NAME GAME Unit 5

When a person decide to have a company, think about a lot of details. The reality is that the name could be the key for the success or failure of that company.Business executive try to find catchy names for their companies and products, but not necessary beautiful names but names that call the attention of the crowd and make their business more productive. Choosing a name is not easy, the correct is to use a name that have meaning with the purpose that when someone reads the name knows immediately what the business is about and what is the direct benefit it offers to the consumers. There are different ways to choose a name, for example a company may have the name of the founders, the name of the place when they first did business, or the name of their primary products. Some companies are identified by initials. Some firms create names by a process called Morpheme Construction and other companies choose their names that are inspired by other company, among others.Names can be created no matter how, but there is something that every entrepreneur need to have in mind, they must make sure that the names they choose are easy to pronounce and that they do not have any negative linguistic or cultural meanings in the target language, because translations can be positive in some languages and negative in others.

MASTERING THE LAW OF GRAVITY Unit 6

This unit talks about, principally, of the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, what is a movie of action, adventures and martial arts. The movie is based on the fourth novel called Iron Pentalogy, written by Wang Dulu. The choreography of the action scenes of the film was made by Yuen Wo Ping, who became famous and got international recognition because of the action choreography he made for the science fiction THE MATRIX. Yuen's dazzling aerial choreography,is called " Wire Work". Yuen Wo-Ping learned how to make wire work from his family because they were involved in Beijing opera performances, which have a tradition of acrobatic dancing and extravagant martial arts. Wire Work is used nowadays more that before, there are a lot of movies that use this technique to make believe to the audience that the actors fly. Although many viewers assume that all the work is made by computers, they only computerized special effects, their primarily function is to safe wires. Another characteristic of this kind of movie, is that they use different materials that serve as an impromptu weapon: umbrellas, brushes, etc. For his great job Yuen is recognized as one of the most important figures in the world of action cinema of Hong Kong, and even though he have made another choreography for different movies this is the most known.

SMART CARS, Intelligent Highways Unit 7

We live in a world where the technology have taken over everything. Currently most of things are getting smarter: Cellphones, Cars among others. But in this occasion I will talk about cars. With the new modifications that have been making to cars,in a few years our cars will look like small spaceships and they will not be short of time to fly. Many manufacturers are already integrating the latest technology in their models, to improve safety and convert the car into a communications center thanks to the permanent connection to the Internet. The systems that make up the "smart cars" are: GPS, laser or satellite, full of sensors, surrounded by cameras, with intelligent lighting, multimedia. It is possible that within a few years, cars will become so intelligent that they can drive themselves.Intelligent cars have a system full of safety devices like, airbag system and even there are cars that have the ability to navigate. Even though technology have a lot of advantages, it has disadvantages because, more buttons take more of the drivers attention and are involved in more accidents nowadays.Smart cars are now being used so much that automatic cars will possibly go down in history. But I think automatic cars are more safety.

Urban Legends. Unit 4

We have all heard some urban legend. These are popular narratives that become distorted as they pass from mouth to mouth. They are stories in which each person adds more information and details, often without knowing whether it is true or not. These stories are usually based on a real fact similar to cash, because an urban legend is a fiction, and all fictions are based on perceptions. The urban legend is about a popular tradition which aims to cause fear and entertain, some of it has been real, but they are distorted or exaggerated and mixed with fictitious facts. It is inspired by some mysterious or incomprehensible element of some story or fact, and very rarely can the origin of each legend be identified. We Dominicans are known for following these stories, so much so that many of these stories are still spoken, as the history of the Siguapa has always been very famous and interesting in our country

The Name Game. Unit 5

Choosing a good name for a company is extremely important, because with the right choice the company or brand will stand out, by having a good name, people with only mentioning it will have knowledge of it and relate it to its functions, although many times we can find many brands of companies whose names have nothing to do with their works, a company can become famous only by the name and the relationships that it has, even if it is bad, and has a good name that the public catches their attention, At least, for curiosity people consume their products, in particular, I think that the names have to do a lot for the customer to buy, in our country there are many companies whose products are not very good but for the years and the name we still buying.

Second, we must search for an easy, fresh, and very atractive name, in order to catch people attention to our brand. Third, we have to put so much attention to the process, quality, ethic, and costumer service. Finaly, we must keep all this characteristics before mentioned, as long as our brand life.

Unit 4. Urban Legends.

Urban Legends allow us to use our imaginations to fill in increasingly horrifying details with each retelling. An urban legend, myth, or tale' is a modern genre of folklore. There are many urban legends and often they can fill us with horror. Urban legends are an important part of popular culture offering insight into our fears and the state of society. They're also good fun. Urban legends are also good indicators of what's going on in current society. Urban legends aren't all serious life lessons and conspiracy theories with the scariest, most plausible ones often framed as funny stories.

Unit 5. The Name Game.

One of the most essential parts of starting a new business is choosing the right name. Choosing the right name for your brand is going to take time. There’s no need to have one from the start. Spend a few weeks mulling over the options while planning your business, reciting them over in your head to see what feels good, doodling the name and possible logos to imagine how they will look on websites or stationery, until you feel comfortable. This is a brand name that you will, hopefully, have for a long time, so it pays to give it serious thought.

Martial arts training can show us our own capacity for courage. Courage in battle is important, but having the courage to live your life with an open heart is also important.
It is often said that Martial arts training teaches us discipline.

Yuen Wo-Ping proves that martial arts is much more than fighting, which is like another education not visible with respect, discipline, thought, etc.

In my opinion, it should be that martial arts is as important as going to school. There are mothers who do not allow their children to practice that because they think that it is violence, not knowing its true meaning. I do not waste my time trying to change their minds because their minds are not open to change. There is an old proverb that says it all, "those who speak do not know, those who know do not speak".

Unit 7. Smart Cars, Intelligent Highways.

Most smart cars are compact, meaning that they take up less space. This makes it easier to park on the street, but also in car parks that have specific spaces for compact cars. This can help to relieve urban congestion, making it easier for you to get around easily. Smart cars combine the latest in fuel saving technologies with alternatives such as electric power. While the price of petrol rises, people who have a smart car are actually paying less each time they that fill up their car. Over time, this can even make it cheaper to own one of these cars than to own a traditional car.Smart cars work with the latest technologies, making it so that they are in the best working order possible. This means that they tend to break down less often and that their repair schedules are a bit more predictable. While some of the older models did have problems with battery.I have not had a vehicle, but when I have it I will buy an intelligent car, since you have many benefits.

Yo-yos are cool, and all, but the more I delve into them the more I think there’s good reasons humans invented the things they did in the progression of yo-yos history. Yo-yos is great and simple, but it's not always easy.

In my opinion it is good to practice the use of yo-yos in schools so that they learn to make mistakes along the way. Tell them that it is important to learn from mistakes and never give up, so children practice persistence and find great fulfillment by doing their best.

Laura Massiel Ventura Aybar said...

I agree with you, also it is better to invest in something that is worth more and that you know that gives you more security, even if it is a little more expensive, you benefit from many other things.

Unit 7- Smart Cars, Intelligent Highways.

Unit 8- The ups and downs of yo-yos.

This unit reminds me of my Childhood because I used to play with yo-yos and other common toys in my neighborhood. I didn’t know that the yo-yos were as old as the reading says.
No one knows when the yo-yos were used for the first time, but we know (according to the reading) My grandfather, my grandmother, my Esther and my mother used to play with yo-yos, not only in their chilhood bit also when they were adults maybe to calm their anxiety.
Yo-yos were most widely used by boys, but when I was a child I prefered to play with it and also with fu-fu, trompo and cars instead of play with dolls, teddy bears and kitchen sets.

Unit 1: The World of World Music.

In this unit we can appreciate the biggining of a new kind of music who combines different types of music and instruments. This kind of music was established since 1987 but for us is a new form to make music.
I really enjoyed to read this reading because the most of the time we just listen carribbean and american music and we ignore the music from Nigeria, Senegal, New Zeland and the other countries that are mentioned in the reading.

Unit 2: Oases in Space.

This reading was very interesting to read, because i personnally don't have too much information about how the space is, and all the studies that many nations are making there.
Sometimes we ignore what are the intentions of the big potences in the world with exploring the space, what are tge experiments that they are doing and in this unit we have learned about what is the International Space Station and how it works.

Unit 3: J-Ball.

In every single reading of this book, we have learned many interesting informations, it was very surprising to know more about baseball history, what we call baseball was first called "townball", and it was invented in the northeastearn United States.
This game has become internationalized, in Latin American especially in the Dominican Republic there's a strong baseball tradition and many players have been drafted to work for the major leagues of baseball in USA.
Baseball is also played in Asia: Korea, Taiwan, and especially in Japan.
In this reading we saw the development of this game, in the future baseball will become more and more international affair.

Unit 4: Urban Legends.

When we are talking about the urban legends, we make reference to those stories and biliefs from a determinated culture.
Some characteristics of urban legends that we can recognize is that they appear spontaneosly. They passed from one person to another, and sometimes there are many versions of the same legend and they are always alleged to be true.
Here in the Dominican Republic urban legends frecuently are associated to bad luck, but not all of them are morbid or eerie, some are just amusing.
When we advance in our knowlegment of life and academics we don't believe in some urban legends at all.

Unit 5: The Name Game.

In this unit we can appreciate how to choose a good name for a trademark is very important because the name make the fist contact with the consumers and they decide if this product is marketable.
Sonetimes when a company is selled to another is common to keep the same name or fusion the name with the same presentation avoiding to loose respect or the marketing sales.
Some companies choose names that are inspired by other company names but nowadays the bussiness executives are choosing good names for their marks since the bigginig because if the mark become famous is more diffocult ti be understood in other countries, some names are succesful but there are many cases of companies unsuccesful because of their names.
The name should be easy to pronouce to be remarkable.

Unit 7: Smart Cars, Intelligent Highways.

We are living in a technology world, every day we can see how everything is changing and how people are responding of these changes.
If we make a look back of the 70's, 80's and 90's car, they are totally different in technology of the cars that we can use in these days.
I remember my father had a "Cepillo", the emblematic model of VW,it wasn't any safe stuffs, but today's car have GPS, cameras, automathic air bags, voice signal, automathic keys, radar, lasers but the problem is that it doesn't matter how smart or fancy is your car or the highways the traffic is very difficult.
And another thing is that smart cars are too expensive, there's people that waste money in the last model of car but another car makes the same: transport!

Unit 8: the Ups and Downs of Yo-yos.

I really enjoyed reading this article because i used to play yo-yo when i was a child, but i didn't like the traditional ones because i thought that it was for boys, but when the yo-yos were with light integrated i played and i enjoyed too much!

It was very surprising for me the history of yo-yos, 3,000 years ago in china, the first historical record of yo-yos from Greece 500 B.C.
There's yo-yos made of wood, plastic and others materials. This play is a tradition... I think my childrem are going to play with colored yo-yos!!
